Frequently Asked Questions
What are your fees?
My rates are as follows: $300 for 60 minutes, $375 for 75 minutes, $425 for 90 minute session.
I understand that weekly sessions is a big commitment of time and money. However, your marriage is often the biggest predictor of your health and wellbeing. Investing in improving your relationship will likely have a positive impact on many other areas of your life as well.
I require weekly sessions for my clients because I know this schedule to be most effective. I want to deliver the best results possible and know that meeting weekly is more likely to lead to success. I would rather see you more frequently and make good changes rather than see you sporadically for years hoping to see results.
Why don't you take insurance?
The short answer is: couples therapy is not a service insurance companies cover. Yes, you can find some couples therapists who accept insurance and simply bill it under a different service code. I do not do this for the following reasons:
- Technically, this is insurance fraud.
- Billing insurance for couples therapy means I am being unethical and risking clawbacks from insurance companies. We could both end up owing money to your insurance company. I have enough anxiety in my life without the stress of trying to game the system.
- Billing insurance limits me in using my expertise to provide the treatment I deem best for my clients.
- Insurance companies pay less for family sessions than individual sessions making it even more difficult for couple therapists to earn a living wage.

Why should we choose to work with you? How do we know if you are a good fit for us?
The short answer is that after 11 years of experience I’m really, really good at my job. Seriously.
I might not be the right fit for you. But if you are looking for a therapist committed to staying up-to-date on the latest research, who truly cares for each of her clients, and believes the occasional well-placed swear word or joke can sometimes be therapeutic, I’m your person.
Being able to trust your therapist and believing that they can help you is the number one factor towards success for all therapy. I consider this an on-going process. First, we’ll have a free online consultation where you learn my approach and get a sense of my personality. I’m also making sure your concerns are in my lane – do I think I can be helpful to you? Then, in the first few sessions you are continuing to get to know me, how it feels to be in the room with me, and the science behind Emotionally Focused Therapy. Eventually we will have a ‘define the relationship’ conversation. I will check in with you- do you think this match will work? If the answer is yes, we will continue, If the answer is no, that’s OK too. I will not be offended! I can even try to help you find a better fit.
How long does couples therapy take?
The answer to this varies greatly. Consider this:
- How long have you been unhappy and disconnected from one another?
- Are there still glimmers of love between you?
- Do you want your relationship to improve?
- Are you willing to commit to regularly attending therapy?
- Is your couples therapist an expert with a clear, evidence based approach?
If the hurt between you has been growing for a few years rather than a decade, the course of therapy will be shorter. I have worked with couples who have made great changes and ‘graduated’ from couples therapy in six months. Some couples take much longer. The average for my couples is about one year of consistent, weekly sessions.
How much does couples therapy cost?
Couples therapy is a big investment in both time and money. Some couples therapists say: “It costs less than divorce!” which is true, but not the whole picture.
In therapy, like most things, you get what you pay for. My rates reflect the following: my years of experience, my investment in specialized and onging training, and my ability to keep a smaller caseload. This is important to me because not only do I have time to prepare for and reflect on sessions, I also have time to do the things I need to do to step into the therapy room grounded, curious, and full of compassion. (As opposed to former schedules in which I was rushing to simply drink water, use the restroon, eat a snack, and breathe in the five minutes I had between sessions.) I know that having a bit of space in my caseload makes me a better, more effective therapist.
I also believe in the value of my work. Your relationship with your partner can be the biggest impact on your happiness and wellbeing. When your partner is a source of pain and stress, everything in life is harder, less joyful. What would you pay in order to create a reliable, safe, intimate, partnership at the center of your life? Are there other things you are spending money on that can wait while you prioritze your relationship?
My rates are as follows: 60 minute session $300, 75 minute session $375, 90 minute session $425
Does couples therapy really work?
I can’t speak for all couples therapy but in my office – yes, couples therapy works. Not always. And sometimes, in the process a couple decides to end the relationship. But I do believe that if both members of a couple really want to save their relationship and enjoy it, I can help them do this. The research on Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy shows that not only do couples report significant improvement after a course of treatment, but in follow-ups ten and fifteen years later these couples are still reporting relationship satisfaction. How does teletherapy work?
Surprisingly well. When you schedule an appointment, I’ll send you instructions on how to connect.
Some things to consider when doing teletherapy: Where the session will take place? Do you have a reliable internet connection? Are you in a quiet, private location? Do you have earbuds or a microphone you would like to use? Is your device fully charged?
Do you work with kids?
I work with clients ages 13 and up. I also work with parents of kids of all ages both as a therapist and coach.
